John T. McCahan, Sr., 86, Tipton went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday morning, November 17, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 29, 1933 in Grazierville, son of the late William R. and Laura (Moon) McCahan. On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Nancy J. Collier at Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years; a son, John T., Jr. of Antis Township; two daughters, Joanne G. Latchford of Three Springs and Laurie M. (Michael) Flanagan of Lock Haven; six grandchildren, Mindy, Allison, Kevin, Trevor, Summer and Joshua; eight great-grandchildren,Brayden, Brycen, Trinity, Haleigh, Laken, Nathanael, Theodore and Olivia; and two sisters, Lasca Jackson of Altoona and Ruth Durbin of Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a son, Chester G.; two infant siblings; two brothers, Grant and William; and two sisters, Genevieve and Gene. John was a US Army veteran. He retired from Veeder Root, Duncansville after 30 years of service. In 1975, he expanded his love of painting and became a professional artist, sharing his talents with many for the past 44 years. He gave of his time giving art lessons at Northern Blair Senior Center, Tyrone. John was a member of Tipton United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. An avid hunter, he loved the great outdoors and was a member of the NRA. He loved his family and his greatest joy was spending time with them. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 pm Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 and 10 to 11 am Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday at the funeral home, Pastor Gloria Montgomery officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. The family suggests that contributions in John’s memory be made to Tipton United Methodist Church.
