Joy Lynn (Markel) Shaw, 57, Altoona died Tuesday evening at Altoona Center for Nursing Care. She was born in Ilwaco, Washington daughter of Carmen (Cherry) Markel-Steele and the late Eugene Markel. Surviving are a son; Richard T. Shaw of Altoona; three grandchildren, Richard Shaw, Jr. , Morgan Shaw and Joel Fortune; daughter in law, Molly Shaw of Pittsburgh; her mother of Altoona; two sisters, Dawn McClellan and Kelly (Richard) McGarvey both of Altoona; two brothers, Scott (Carol)and Kim (Carla)Markel both of Altoona; nephews and nieces, Chris, Denny and Ryan McClellan, Ann Markel and Kristie Markel Socha; and special family Stephanie Fortune. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene, Jr. and Sean Markel, grandparents, Edwin and Hilda Cherry and William and Margaret Frantz, and her step father, Ray E. Steele. Joy was a graduate of Altoona High School and Altoona Vocational Technical School. Friends will be received from 5pm until 7pm on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A memorial service will be held at 7pm Friday Sept. 4, 2015 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Joy’s memory be made to Grazierville United Methodist Church.
