Loriene Smith

Loriene K. Smith, 97, Philipsburg, formerly of Bellwood died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg. She was born June 19, 1920 in Fostoria, Antis Township a daughter of the late Steward E. and Fannie V. (Rumbarger) Knepp. On June 11, 1949 she married Thomas H. Smith at Evangelical United Brethren Church, Liverpool Pennsylvania. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before his death on June 21, 2008. She is survived by two cousins; two sisters in law, Connie Pike and Marjorie Forsht; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Steward H., Bruce H. and infants, Anna Lorraine and Violet Marie Knepp. Loriene was a 1938 graduate of Antis Township High School, a 1942 graduate of Juniata College and also attended Penn State University. She retired in 1982 after serving 40 years as an elementary teacher and principal at Bellwood Antis School District. Loriene was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Antis Township. She was a lifetime charter member of Business and Professional Women, Bellwood/Tyrone chapter, and a member of National and State Education Association and Blair County Chapter of Retired School Employees. To honor Loriene’s wishes, there will be no public viewing, visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of her family at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. The family suggests that contributions in Loriene’s memory be made to Bellwood-Antis Public Library or Salem Lutheran Church, Antis Township.
