Madeline L. “Maddy” Berkstresser, 81, Bellwood peacefully passed away Saturday April 11, 2020 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona. She was born October 26, 1938 in Bellwood, daughter of the late Percy C. and Mary Elizabeth (Myers) Messner. On March 16, 1963, she married Ronald D. Berkstresser at Logan Valley Presbyterian Church parsonage in Bellwood. Surviving are her husband; five daughters, Pamela (James) Celmo, of Bellwood, Susan (Michael) Grazier of Surfside Beach, SC, Amy (Randy) Chamberlin, and Sally Berkstresser both of Bellwood and Ronda (Mark) Hansolvan of Morrisdale; 16 grandchilden; 9 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marian “Mitzi” Shuster of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by a step daughter, Sharon Rowe; and siblings, Curtis, Robert, Kay and Ray Messner, Elizabeth Nagle, Ruth Carr and Margie Messner. Maddy was a 1956 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and was a member of Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, Bellwood. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Maddy loved spending time with her family and made sure holidays and family gatherings were special. She loved playing board games, doing puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. In later years, she and Ron enjoyed camping, fishing, cruises and bus trips with friends. A special thank you to Kim and all Maddy’s caregivers through the years. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the immediate family. A public celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Arrangements are by Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc., Bellwood.
