Myrtle Harpster

Myrtle M. Harpster, 87, Bellwood passed away peacefully Saturday evening July 16, 2016. She was born February 19, 1929 in Bellwood daughter of the late William W. and Beatrice M. (O’Shell) Campbell, and was named after her paternal grandmother. She married Joseph L. Harpster on June 7, 1951 in Winchester, Va. having just celebrated 65 years together. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Joseph L., Jr. (Debra) of Bellwood and Michael L. (Carolyn) of Williamsport, Md.; a daughter, Vicky L. (Donald) Litz of Antis Township; seven grandchildren, Joseph Harpster, III, Angela (Harpster) Grove, and Kendra (Litz) George all of Bellwood, Ryan Harpster, Elisa Harpster and Kristin (Harpster) Stewart all of Williamsport, Md., and Andrea Litz of Harrisburg; ten great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty M. Snyder and L. Deloris Betke both of Bellwood. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Raymond, G. Frederick and Ellis “Curly” Campbell; and 2 sisters, Marcella G. Campbell and Mary G.Troxell. Myrt was a 1948 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. She was of the Methodist faith. Family and friends knew her as “Myrt, Mom, Grandma, Mom Mom, and Gig”. She was a homemaker throughout her life, taking care of her family while her husband served and later retired from the US Air Force. They had moved around the country before settling back to their hometown area. Myrt enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and families. She loved her dog, trying new recipes, gardening, fishing, traveling, doing puzzles and her annual trips to Florida every winter with her husband in their RV. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests that those who wish to make contributions in Myrtle’s memory, please send to the Central PA Humane Society, Altoona.
