Oliver Fair

Oliver Dick Fair, 86, a resident of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Bellwood died Sunday at the home. He was born in Willoughby, Ohio, son of the late Paul C. and Anna (Rittenhouse) Fair. He married Patricia Joyce Riley on Sept. 16, 1950 in Winchester, Va. and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2009. Surviving are a two sons, Rodger P. (Linda) of Bellwood and Scott J. (Brenda) of Hanover; a daughter, Pamela A. (Neil) Whittaker of Altoona; five grandchildren, Justin Fair, Brian Whittaker, Amy Abram, Joseph Neary and Melissa Neary Wagner; and a brother, Ron G. (Patti) of Brighton, CO. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul J. and a sister, Marian Metzler. Dick was a 1945 graduate of DuBois High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree at Penn State University. He proudly served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1948. He retired from the Bellwood-Antis School District in 1987 after 35 years of service as a guidance counselor. Dick was a long-time member and holder of various offices of the Bellwood Beagle Club Association. He enjoyed his membership at the Sinking Valley Country Club for golfing during the summer. Dick enjoyed hunting, hiking, golfing, reading, listening to classical music and wintering in Myrtle Beach. At the request of the deceased there will be no services. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Blair County Special Olympics PO Box 648 Altoona, PA 16603.
