Robert P. “Sonny” Hornberger, Sr., 72, Pinecroft died late Monday evening at his home. He was born in Altoona son of the late Arthur L. and Mildred A. (Schirf) Hornberger. He married Rebecca “Ruth” Kimble on June 19, 1965 in Bellwood. Surviving are his wife of 50 years; three children, Robert P., Jr (Amy Lemasters), Amie J. (Mike) Ringler and Becki L. (Earl) Yon all of Pinecroft; 12 grandchildren, Brenda, Benjamin, Bryant, Bryce and R. Brayden Hornberger, Alivia, Alexis and Drake Halvorsen, Jaiden Cunningham, Summer and Deanna Yon, and Joshua Ringler; two sisters, Dorothy Geesey of Altoona and Kathleen Pfahler of Bellwood; and former daughter in law, Bonnie Damiano. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary A. “Peanie” Brower. Sonny retired as a mason at James G. Snyder Masonry, Riggles Gap. He served with the Army National Guard. Sonny was a life member of Pinecroft Volunteer Fire Company where he served as president and fire chief. He was a member of Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Blair County Allied Volunteer Firemen’s Association and served as forest fire warden for 30 years and 8 years as Antis Township Supervisor. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially spending time with his family. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm, Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood where a firemen’s service will be held at 7:30pm. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Friday, June 26, 2015 at the funeral home, Pastor Elijah Tower officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. The family suggests that contributions in Sonny’s memory be made to Pinecroft Volunteer Fire Company.
