Shirley A. Beck, 91, Bellwood died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Amber Terrace, Altoona, after heart complications. She was born June 29, 1927 in Hollidaysburg daughter of the late Samuel Guy and Martha B. (Shade) Harpster. On May 22, 1954 she married Earl W. Beck in Bellwood and he preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1990. Surviving are two sons, Stephen (Ruth) of Vienna, Va. and Rodney of Dallas, Tx.; five grandchildren, Daniel (Lorena), Rachel (Bryant), Sarah, David and Brittany; a great-grandson, Lucas; and a sister, Dorothy Gensamer of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by two sisters, infant Betty Jane and Josephine Talmadge. In 1933, at age 6, Shirley and her family moved to Tyrone, later moving to Bellwood when she was 11 years old. She was a 1949 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School and in 2014, she retired as a part- time receptionist at the Altoona Mirror after more than 40 years of service. Shirley was a member of Hillside Community Church, Bellwood and Spring Lake Sportsman Club, Antis Township. She enjoyed sitting on her porch swing talking with her family and many friends. She also enjoyed walking, swimming at the Spring Lake pool on hot summer days and she volunteered her time visiting shut-ins at various places. Shirley will be missed by the many whose lives she touched in Bellwood and surrounding areas. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood, Pastor John Poe officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
