Shirley I. McFarland, 86 of Bellwood died Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. She was born in Bellwood daughter of the late Cloyd M. and Nora M. (Williamson) Estep. She married Donald E. McFarland, Sr. on Oct. 21, 1948 in Bellwood and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2000. Surviving are two sons, Donald E., Jr. (Barbara) of Roy, UT and Dennis L. (Gloria) of Altoona; six grandchildren, Nora Mae Willard, Dustin L., Donald E., III, Shawn L., Cody A., and Brittani M. McFarland; and 11 great grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, preceded by 5 brothers, Walter S. “Bud”, Howard M., K. Neal, Melvin C. and Galen; and sister, Mary Emma Shoenberger. Shirley retired as a nurse’s aide at Valley View Home, Altoona. She was a member of Bellwood Church of the Brethren. Shirley enjoyed bowling. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6 until the 8pm funeral service on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc., Bellwood with Pastor Rod Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
