Sylvia Hockenbury

Sylvia A. Hockenbury, 81, Graystone Court Bellmeade went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday morning at Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Altoona. She was born in Pike County, Kentucky, daughter of the late James and Gladys (Gooslin) New. Surviving are her husband, John M.; a son, James A. (Nancy) Hardy of Traverse City, Mich.: a step son, John L. (Marilyn) of Elk Grove, Calif.; two step daughters, Janice G. Mills of Flint, Mich and Debra A.(Ken) Hetherington of Naples, Fla; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three siblings, Lillian (Chester)Youmans, Judy Jones and Carson New all in Michigan; and nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and James. Sylvia was employed as a dietician at several nursing homes in Michigan. She attended Tipton Baptist Church. Sylvia enjoyed cooking, playing cards and visiting with family and shut-ins. She enjoyed traveling which included visits to almost every state in the United States and also to the British Isles and Europe. Sylvia’s smile and pleasant personality touch many who knew her. Friends will be received from 11am to noon Tues., January 23, 2018 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday at the funeral home, Pastor Tim Allen officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. The family suggests that contributions in Sylvia’s memory be made to Tipton Baptist Church.
