William Laird

William C. Laird, 83 of Bellwood died early Thursday morning May 19, 2016 at Epworth Manor Tyrone. He was born July 17, 1932 in Bellwood son of the late William L. and Velma M. (O’Harra) Laird. He is survived by a sister, Peggy Mingle of Bellwood. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester and a nephew, Gary Mingle. Bill was a 1951 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He was a US Army veteran serving from Jan. 26, 1953 – Dec. 29, 1954 during the Korean Conflict and later enlisted with the US Coast Guard on March 11, 1959 until his retirement on October 1, 1980 earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Vietnam Era and was a flight engineer for the commandant’s crew. Bill was a member of the F.O.E. Bellwood and the Bellwood V.F.W. He was an avid fan of all sporting events in the Bellwood-Antis community especially the Bellwood-Antis High School events. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing , visitation or funeral service. Interment with military honors will be held at 11am Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
