Kathleen M. Mills, Esq. Obituary

Kathleen M. Mills, 74, of Hanover Township, passed peacefully on February 1st, 2019, surrounded by loving family. Born in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Eugene W. and Sara (Hall) Merry. She was a graduate of Trinity College, Duke Law, and later the Senior Executive in Business Program at Stanford University. A trailblazer for women in the field, one of the few women at the time to break into "Big Law", she became in house counsel for Bethlehem Steel Corp., working her way up to Deputy General Council & Associate Secretary. She was also General Counsel for Human Resources. She worked for the Steel for over 30 years until it ceased operations. Her next endeavor was with Fitzpatrick, Lentz & Bubba, with their Employment Law & Labor Relations, Litigation, International Business & Trade Law Groups, 2006-2019. She loved what she did, her colleagues, and was very proud to be part of FLB. She was also a tireless volunteer with Saint Luke's Visiting Nurses Association for over 40 years. From serving as Board President, to managing legal affairs, to hand knitting hundreds upon hundreds of scarves, blankets, hats and mittens for their Young Mothers Program. She took a very special interest in this program, designed to help young women overcome adversity, and thrive. St. Luke's honored her as a "Shining Star" in 2015. Other honors: named a “Select Lawyer” in Employment Discrimination Law and Labor & Employment Law, 2014-2015; New York City YWCA’s Woman of the Year; Outstanding Children’s Advocate, Weller Health Education Center. She was an avid reader who loved a great mystery book. She loved to give. She loved attending her children's horse shows, theater performances, and sporting events. She was an extraordinarily kind soul who positively impacted the lives of so many people. She had a drive second to none, an undauntable will to push through whatever challenges arose. She will be dearly missed.

She was a member of Notre Dame R.C. Church. She is survived by her children, Eugene B. Mills of Bethlehem; Stuart J.D. Mills (Wife Lisa) of Lone Tree, CO; Kathryn B. Mills of Hellertown (Luke Dellmyer, Husband); Frances S. Mills of Bethesda, MD; sisters, Sheila Merry of Evanston (Tom, Husband), Jeannie Bucher of La Jolla, CA (John, Husband); Susie Maddelein of San Jose, CA (Doug, late Husband); and her grandson, Ty Dellmyer of Hellertown.
