Daniel Andrew Birchok Obituary

Age 73, of Pittsburgh, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020. He was the son to the late Andrew Birchok and Mary Padala. Daniel is survived by his loving wife Anne Marie Birchok of forty-six years, his three children, Daniel (Lori Roddy) Birchok Jr., Annie (Matt) Mulig and Jonathan (Julie) Birchok, nine grandchildren, Hakim, Jacob, Anna, Emily, Lexi, Dominic, Jamie, Ben and Olivia, two siblings, Maryann Pennekamp and David Birchok. Daniel grew up in Clairton, the son of a steel worker, among many relatives. After high school he joined the Navy and served two tours during the Vietnam War, one in Southeast Asia and one in the Mediterranean. Upon retuning home he earned a BA in Psychology from Duquesne and met Anne Marie at Pitt Stadium, where they both worked. They were set up for a blind date but met and began to fall for each other before that date occurred. They married in 1973, moving to Cecil Township when their eldest child was on the way. Daniel had a successful career as a caretaker of intellectually disabled individuals, first at Mayview State Hospital and then for private group homes. He was a loving father who volunteered for school events and regularly attended plays, dance recitals, and basketball games. As his children got older he and Annemarie began to participate in Marriage Encounter weekends, giving presentations and supporting other married couples as they explored their relationships. He also joined the American Legion-Cecil, and frequently attended veterans breakfast clubs. Being a born and raised Pittsburgher, he enjoyed watching the Steelers, as well as reading and socializing with anyone he met. He truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending the activities in which they were involved. In lieu of flowers please make donations to American Diabetes Association in Daniel’s memory. Funeral arranged by BEINHAUER-FRYER, 430 Washington Road, Bridgeville, 15017, (412) 221-3800.
