Mary Catherine Campbell Spegar, age 54, of Chalk Hill, Pa., passed away tragically and unexpectedly on Sunday, November 12, 2017. She was born on January 17, 1963, the daughter of RoseAnne Campbell (née Morgan) and Edward Paul Campbell of Deer Lake, Pa. Mary was a 1981 graduate of Geibel High School in Connellsville, Pa.; a 1985 graduate of Seton Hill University, in Greensburg, Pa.; and a 1992 graduate with a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mary began her law career with John and John, Attorneys at Law, and subsequently worked for almost 20 years as a public defender in Fayette County, where she was known for the dedication and compassion she showed to all. In addition to her role as a public defender, over the past year, Mary also served as an attorney for Children and Youth Services of Fayette County. She enjoyed exercise and being outdoors, often going for runs in the mountains where she lived and swimming in the lake. She had an infectious cheer about her and was the go-to person for all sorts of holiday planning, from Fourth of July races to Christmas celebrations. Above all, she was a mother, deeply devoted to her son, Michael, whom she supported in all of his endeavors. Her love for him was profound and immense. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Edward; sisters, Colleen Campbell and Mary Theresa Campbell; brother, Edward Morgan Campbell; father-in-law, Eugene Cyril Spegar; and niece, Brooke Spegar. She is survived by her husband, Michael J. Spegar, III beloved son, Michael J. Spegar, IV mother, RoseAnne Campbell - Deer Lake, PA sisters, Anne Campbell Thomeer and husband Marcus of Buffalo, N.Y., Patrice Campbell Baranowski and husband James of Deer Lake, Pa., Joan Campbell-Rosbrook and husband Tim of Rome, N.Y., Eileen Campbell Knapp and husband Tim of Deer Lake, Pa., Sharon Campbell and fiancée Henry Friend of Hibbs, Pa.; brother, Robert Campbell and wife Bonnie of New Freedom, Pa mother-in-law, Rosalie Spegar (née Tylka). She is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly (and who loved her). Family and friends will be received at the Skirpan Funeral Home, 680 Cherry Tree Lane, Uniontown, Pa., on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., at which time the Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home, with Rev. Fr. Bob Lubic officiating.
