George Sovich

George Sovich died in his home on September 14, 2013 of complications from cancer one month shy of his 93rd birthday. George was a lifelong resident of Donora, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Donora High School in 1938 and served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II mainly in the Panama Canal. He was a retired steel worker for US Steel in both Donora & Duquesne Works with 43 years of service. George is predeceased by his wife, Elmyra, his parents, John and Susan (Plavcan) Sovich, brother John Sovich, sister Ann DeLucia, and brother Michael Sovich. Surviving are his daughter Barbara Oliver and her husband Tom of Allen Park, Michigan, his son Richard Harkness and his wife Dotty of Kissimmee, Florida, his two grandchildren Susanne (Oliver) Abu-Rus & her husband Mahmoud, and Joanne Oliver, and his sister-in-law Virginia Sovich. George was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed. Family and friends will be received from 9AM to 11AM on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Carroll Twp. / Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379=6900 www.massafrafuneralhome.com. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday at St. Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church located at 511 Murray Avenue Donora, Pennsylvania 15033 with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Wahal as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Donora, PA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Amedisyis Hospice, 100 Stoops Drive Suite 300, Monongahela, PA 15063 or the American Cancer Society may be made in his memory
