Esther Ward Obituary

Esther Ward, 99, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 23, 2017 in her home, following a lengthy illness. Born on April 19, 1918 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late George Herbert Foreman and Blanche Mae Walterick Foreman. She was the widow of Francis P. Ward, whom she married on March 30, 1940. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1990. A 1935 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Esther worked for the former Stanley Clothing Company in Chambersburg for 33 years. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the church’s Young at Heart Club and the Legion of Mary. She was also a member of the Golden Age Club, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 Ladies Auxiliary, and the AARP Falling Spring Chapter 2840. Esther was always active with her church and community, and she had a great love for her family and her faith. She began to play the piano at a young age and spent much of her retirement years volunteering her talent at local nursing homes, the Chambersburg Hospital Rehabilitation Unit, social dinners and almost any place that invited her. She sang with the AARP Chorus for many years, as she loved to bring joy to others through music. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing bingo, traveling, reading and watching baseball games on TV. Surviving are three children, Patricia (husband Felicito) Yoingco of Walkersville, MD, and Timothy (wife Paula) Ward of New Bloomfield, Katherine (husband Malcolm) Wingert of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Mike, Nino, and Dennis Yoingco, Dawn Sheffield, Amanda Carbaugh, Stacey Coldsmith and Brian Wingert; and 19 great grandchildren. Aside from her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers, George Jr., Ralph, Garnet, Robert, and Harold Foreman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, April 28, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church 320 Philadelphia Ave Chambersburg, with Rev. Fr. Joseph Carolin officiating. Interment will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 320 Philadelphia Avenue Chambersburg, PA 17201.
