Floyd Bailey Obituary

Floyd J. “Bud” Bailey, age 95, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at The Village of Laurel Run. Born in Grottoes, VA on August 13, 1921, he was the son of the late Henry and Lula E. Grimm Bailey. As a young man, Mr. Bailey was a resident of the C.C. Camp at South Mountain, where he had worked until enlisting in the U.S. Army. Mr. Bailey served honorably during WWII, where he had earned a Bronze Star. He went on to work as a laborer at the former Frick Company, and then at the former L.B. Smith Company in Chambersburg, and then as a Foreman for many years at Chambersburg Area Orchard. He was a life time member of the VFW in Waynesboro and a member of the DAV. Mr. Bailey enjoyed fishing and hunting in his early years. He most recently attended the Fayetteville Church of God. Surviving is his wife of 71 years, Mary Allen Bailey, whom he married on July 31, 1945; a son, James D. Bailey (wife Emily) of Fayetteville, PA; three granddaughters Lisa Owens, (husband Michael) of Annapolis, MD, Pamela Pride (husband Al) of Reston, VA, and April Sprenkle (husband Mike) of Fayetteville, PA; five great-grandchildren, Alex and Meghan Owens, Breanna Pride, and Kendra and Cameron Sprenkle; and a sister, Ann B. Benshoff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 of his siblings, Homer Bailey, John Bailey, Robert Lee Bailey, Carl Laye, Conrad Laye, Shirley Laye Small, Wade Bailey, Ken Bailey, Myrtle Bailey Frey Coltri, George Daniel Bailey, and Norman Bailey. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg , PA, where Pastor Gary Yoder will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 9 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be offered by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Heartland Hospice, 417 Phoenix Dr Unit A, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to The Village of Laurel Run, 6375 Chambersburg Rd., Fayetteville, PA 17222.
