Kenneth Mackey

Kenneth R. Mackey, 90, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017. Born July 8, 1927 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Amos and Alice Light Mackey. Mr. Mackey was employed as a truck driver for 32 ½ years until his retirement in 1989. Over that time period, he drove for B & P Trucking and Ryder Trucking which eventually became PIE Trucking. After his retirement, he worked part-time at the Butcher Shoppe in Chambersburg for 15 years. He enjoyed his trucking career as well as farming and hunting. Mr. Mackey was a member of Chambersburg Church of the Brethren and served as a missionary to Ecuador and the Dominican Republic where he helped to build houses. He was also a member of the Cumberland Valley Antique Tractor Club. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Knoll Mackey, whom he married on November 21, 1971; his daughter, Hope Parson and husband Sidney of Chambersburg, and five grandchildren, Eric, Faith, Devin, Carter and Lila. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, 260 S. Fourth Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Joel Nogle and Rev. Darlene Stouffer will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chambersburg Church of the Brethren at the above address.
