Dennis J Savage Obituary

Dennis was born on June 28th, 1944 to the late Carrie E (Masten) Savage and the late Earl O Savage in Chester PA. He was middle child of three children.

Dennis attended Chester Public Schools, graduating from Chester High School in

1962. Following high school, Dennis received his undergraduate degree in

Elementary Education from Cheyney State College in June 1966, then awarded

his teaching certificate. His first teaching position was at Franklin Elementary

School in Chester, then he went to teach in Wilmington, DE at Harlan

Elementary School.

Early 70’s, Dennis became involved in a federally funded program to help high school dropouts get their GED and job training. He headed Project 70001

in Wilmington for several years.

Dennis worked for the State of Delaware as Chief Administrator of the Office of

Community Services for 30 years until his retirement in 2009. He was also a member of the Delaware Advisory Council on Career and Technical Education.

Dennis had the personality, charm and intellect to make a memorable and lasting

impression with everyone he met and knew. As a friend quoted “Dennis knew

how to move around in a room of strangers, shake hands and the rest was history”. He loved to travel and supported many local groups and businesses in

Wilmington.

Dennis leaves to cherish his memory, son Dennis James Rogers of Richmond, VA;

sisters, Doris L Savage of Chester, PA and E. Carmen Hill of Philadelphia, PA;

niece, Darcel Burton of Salem, NJ; nephews, Stephen W Hill, Jr (godson) of

Perkasie, PA, and Jared A Hill of West Chester, PA; great nephew, Robert P Burton

of Chester, PA; first cousins, Hermania D Thomas of Upper Marlboro, MD,

Gregory L Brown (Karen) of Chester Springs, PA and William L Patterson III of

Chester, PA. Dennis also leaves unforgettable memories to be cherished by his family, close friends and all of Delaware/Pennsylvania because he knew many.
