Albert Petrof

Albert Michael Petrof, 84, of Clymer and formerly of East Run died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Beacon Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Indiana. He was Born in Green Township, Indiana County, PA on September 30, to the late Joseph Petrof and Hermina (Houlibar) Petrof. Albert graduated from Green Township High School. Throughout his young life he held various employment positions. He started out as a farm hand then worked as a coal miner, railroad worker and steel worker for Bethlehem Steel in Md.before moving to Cleveland. There he was a taxi driver and factory worker, for 12 years, working 6 years simultaneously for the Clark Control Company and the Fisher Body Company. While in Cleveland, he met and later married Wilma F. Woods on August 3,1957 and together they raised five children. In 1960, Albert moved back to Clymer, took over his father’s auto garage and service station that he successfully operated as Petrof’s Garage until he sold it to his son, Albert, Jr. in 1988. Albert Sr. continued to work at the garage into the early 1990's. Everyone who knew Al, knew that he was an outgoing man who loved his family and friends, enjoyed people, played jokes and had lots of fun, dressed as Santa Claus, told many stories and socialized with everyone. Albert was a free-spirited adventurous man and when he was younger, he raced cars and later worked on the pit crew for drag racer, Ed Twigg. He had a passion for cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles and anything with an engine and tires. Albert loved polkas, collected memorabilia and antiques, hunted deer and cared for his many pets. The Community of Clymer was extremely important to him and he actively dedicated his time and energy to enhancing the Clymer Community.He dressed as George Clymer for Clymer Days; was a former member of the Clymer Volunteer Fire Dept., ; belonged to the Clymer Betterman Assoc.; was a former member of the Clymer Slovak Club; and was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection in Clymer. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Wilma Petrof, he is survived by his children: Marie Fernandez & husband, Sam, San Antonio, TX; Donna Petrof Campbell & husband, Jim, Alexandria, VA; Brenda Petrof Levine & husband, Rich, Chesterland, OH; Albert Petrof, Jr. & wife, Theresa, East Run; Cindy Hazelet & husband, Jim, Cherry Tree and Step-son, Allen Reid & wife, Debbie, Glasgow, WV. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a brother, George Petrof, Wyckliffe, OH; many nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friend, George Hodak, Dixonville. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Jordan Johnston and Whitney Reid; and siblings, Kay Hill, Dorothy Ashcroft, Joseph, John and Charles Petrof. Friends will be received Tuesday, September 24th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer. Rev. Paul Lisik, celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. The Petrof family requests that memorial donations be made to the Two Lick Valley Area Senior Center, 450 Franklin St., Clymer, PA 15728.
