LEROY FRANCIS BOANES, 99 years of Delta, PA, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the home of his great nephew. Married over 60 years, he was the loving husband of the Mildred (Brown) Boanes who passed in 1998. Born on March 28, 1918 in Slate Springs area of Delta, PA, Roy was a son of the late Frank and Cinderella (Steward) Boanes. A lifetime resident of Delta, Roy’s first job was with the former Fawn Grove High School working in the Works Progress Administration followed by employment at the former Bainbridge Naval Base for nine years. Truck driving for the Army Depot in New Cumberland, PA followed before securing his favorite job, executive supervisor for construction of the railroad tracks. In addition, Roy also was a truck driver for the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County. Known as a hardworking man, Roy was also dedicated to his home caring for the yard and any necessary repairs. He was a member of the Eveready Club, and a lifetime member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church in Delta. Dedicated to church activities and events, Roy was always the desert connoisseur making sure each desert was cut with precision. Roy loved family and enjoyed babysitting the little ones. He is survived by Nephew, William Peaco Niece, Betty Stokes Great-nephew, James Edward Higgins Great-niece, Venetia Gould Step-daughter, Marie Shepherd Nephew, Eddie Boanes Sister-in-law, Shirley Onley as well as additional loving family members, a host of friends and distant relatives. He was preceded in death by his five siblings and additional family members. A viewing will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017, from 10-11a.m. at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, 1001 Main Street Delta, PA 17341 where the funeral service will begin at 11a.m. Reverend Charles Smith will be officiating with internment at Chestnut Grove A.M.E. Cemetery, 828 Coen Road, Street, MD 21154. Funeral staff will be outside during all services to assist with parking as well as handicap needs. Memorial remembrances can be made in Leroy’s name to Chestnut Grove A.M.E. Cemetery at the above address.
