Megan Kristine Vogt Obituary

Megan Kristine Vogt, 25, of Delta, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, June 6, 2017. She was the loving daughter of Steve and Kris Vogt, the sister of Jordan Vogt, and the granddaughter of Betty and Guilfred Vogt and of Gloria Harwood. Megan is survived by many, many loving aunts and uncles, wonderful cousins and dear friends. In addition, she leaves behind her partner and soulmate, Brian Dorsey—until they all meet again. Megan’s greatest joy was the beautiful world around her. She grew up on Muddy Creek, where she learned to swim and kayak on the rapids. Her favorite river memory was an 18-day trip down the Grand Canyon—a trip filled with shenanigans that became funnier with every story retold. Megan loved to walk both above and below ground. She couldn’t find her way very well in a car (she was an infamously terrible driver), but she could walk for miles in a cave without losing her path. She also loved the snow and chased her passion through her work as a ski instructor. Megan was a traveler, happily living in her truck for months at a time. ("Paper towel showers, washing your dishes and teeth and face in rest stop sinks—now that is romantic”.) Megan's care and concern extended to all species. She volunteered at Eden Mill Nature Center, teaching children, checking bird boxes and falling in love with owls. She also worked on an organic farm in California, and planned to return to canyon country. She also cared very deeply about the way humans treat themselves; she consumed purely to live purely, that often translated into a good rant about modern medicine. Community was very important to her; Megan wanted people to reach out and support each other. With every step she took forward, she brought others along with her. Megan introduced dozens of people to all her passions. She was the most humble and self-effacing teacher, often feeling like the outlier, when in truth she was one of the most genuine and unique souls on this earth. We will think of her every time our feet touch the ground. Her reasons for leaving us are inexplicable, but her life was not: Megan was engaged in every moment. She left a few final wishes, not only for her family but for the world: “Time is too precious—don’t waste it on something you hate. Follow your dreams and be brave: that’s the reason we were put on this planet. Love with all your heart as you did with me." Her wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held in Fallston United Methodist Church, 1509 Fallston Road, Fallston, MD 21047 beginning at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June16. All family and friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate donations in her name to Eden Mill Nature Center at 1617 Eden Mill Rd, Pylesville, MD 21132. Obituary written by her family.
