Melvin Watkins

Melvin P. “Mel” Watkins, 89, of Dry Run, PA, died Friday evening, January 29, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 22, 1926 in Coals Valley, PA, he was a son of the late Clarence and Edna Stains Watkins. He was employed at one time with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and also worked as a truck driver and logger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and driving. He is survived by his wife, Betty Heffner Watkins, whom he married in 1955; his daughter, Barbara Deener and husband Chris Crandall; his son, Willis Watkins and wife Betty L Watkins, all of Spring Run; six grandchildren, Irvin Deener, III, John Deener, Sarah Deener, June Steffen, Nicole Harry, and Shelva Covert; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Whitney, Jacob, Dextin, Jasmine, Ailani, Keira, Jacorey, Cheyanne, Kristian, Kyana, Adriana, Avontre, Ethan, and Madison. He is also survived by three brothers, Marlin, Robert, and Clarence; and two sisters, Winifred and Isabel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera and June; three brothers, Ralph, Butch, and Sandy, and an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 4, 2016 in the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA. Mr. David Frederick will officiate. Interment will follow at Amberson Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his wife, Betty Watkins, in care of Betty L. Watkins, PO Box 152, Spring Run, PA 17262.
