Tito Spampani

Tito J. Spampani, 96, passed away peacefully January 7, 2014 at his residence at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge Assisted Living Center. Born in Wallingford, Connecticut on February 11, 1917, he was a local resident in Erie for more than 90 years and a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. Tito served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Benning. He was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Catholic Church and served as an Usher for many years. He was one of the craftsmen who worked on the finishing of the church, including the two-story mosaic behind the alter. Later he became a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He worked at General Electric for more than 40 years in many capacities and served on the Mended Hearts Board of Directors to honor his first wife, Kathryne, after her two open heart surgeries in the mid 1960‘s. Tito was preceded in death by his father Tito J. Spampani Sr., mother Evangeline, brothers, Pedro, Aldo, Zanetto, Ugo and sister, Sylvia (Spampani) Ferguson. He was married to Kathryne Kaye (Stebnisky) Spampani for 44 years and after she passed, was married to Florence (Bailey LoCastro) Spampani for more than 25 years. Survivors include one daughter, Judith K. Lewis and husband Edward of Erie; one son Robert J. Spampani and wife Pamela of Mukilteo, WA., and grandchildren Deborah K. Lewis of (Erie), Robert M. Spampani (Mukilteo, WA.) Darlene Hill (Erie), Sallie Lewis (Erie), Marcie Badners, (El- berta, AL), and Brett Lewis (Erie). Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd, Erie, PA 16504 on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Home at Asbury Ridge on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St., suite 244, Erie, 16501.
