Michael Russo Obituary

Our community sadly lost an honorable man on Saturday, August 4, 2018, when Michael J. Russo of Ridley Park, PA passed away peacefully at 93 years of age. Michael, favorably known as “Dad” or “Pop Pop,” was surrounded by his loving family at Crozer Keystone Hospice in Taylor Hospital at the time of his passing. He contributed to the lives of all who knew him as a devoted American, Catholic, and family man. He will be missed on this Earth. Michael defended our nation in World War II, touring across Europe as a U.S. Army Sergeant with Company I 330th Infantry, Regiment 83rd Division and earning a Bronze Star for his heroic service. After the war, he became a member of the 83rd Infantry Association. When he returned stateside Michael worked for Westinghouse until it closed, and, thereafter, was a decades-long employee with Boeing until he retired in 1994. Michael rarely missed a Sunday service at St. Rose of Lima in Eddystone, PA and strived to live every day by the word of God. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Peace Council, 4518. He was also known as an avid fan of our hometown Philadelphia sports teams. Born and raised in Chester, PA, Michael was the son of the late Giuseppe and the late Adeline (Acunda) Russo. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Jo (Davis) Russo, his son, Joseph M. Russo, his brother Anthony and Matthew Russo, and his sister Mary Spinelli. Michael is survived by his sister, Gloria Lodice; his children, Janet (Guy) Pisano, Marian Russo, John (Kate) Russo, and Nanci (Charles) White; his seven grandchildren, Lauren (John), Jenna (Benjamin), Kerri, Jacqui, Eric, Madison, and Michael; and his three great-grandchildren, Alexi, Mila, and Paris. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1901 Chester Pike (at Simpson Street), Eddystone, PA. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 9:00–9:45 a.m. at the church. The interment will be held at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Michael’s name may be made to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc., http://www.pawoundedwarriors.org, a non-profit organization that helps Pennsylvania veterans get back on their feet. On-line condolences, memories, and photographs may be shared on www.lyonsfs.com. Arrangements: Kevin M. Lyons Funeral Service, Glenolden, PA. We will miss you, Dad. We will miss you, Pop Pop.
