Sister Josephine Harty, OSF, 78, died in Assisi House on July 29. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 55 years. Sister Josephine was born Alice Harty in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland, where she was a member of St. Nicholas Parish. She entered the congregation in 1961 and professed her first vows in 1964. She ministered primarily in education. Sister Josephine spent 36 years in the Archdiocese of Boston. She ministered for 34 years of those at Our Lady of Assumption School in Lynnfield (1981-2015) teaching elementary school students. She also taught for two years at Blessed Sacrament School in Walpole. Sister Jospehine’s 16 years of ministry in the Diocese of Trenton included teaching at St. Anthony School, Blessed Sacrament School, and McCorristin High School in Trenton, as well as, Corpus Christi School in Willingboro. In 2016 she moved the Philadelphia area and served in the archdiocese as a volunteer at both Our Lady of Angels Convent and Assisi House. She moved to Assisi House in Aston in early 2019 where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death. All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014 on Friday, August 2, 2019. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial at will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Josephine is survived by her brother, John; her nieces, Linda and Sinéad; and nephew, Kevin; a grandniece and grandnephews; and by her Franciscan family.
