Sister Marcus Streibig, OSF, 82, died in Assisi House on August 21. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 56 years. Sister Marcus (Madeline Mary Streibig) was born in Philadelphia where she was a member of St. Mary Parish in Manayunk and a graduate of Hallahan High School. She entered the congregation in 1956 and professed her first vows in 1959. Sister Marcus earned a B.A. in English, an M.A. in Math, and an M.A. in Secondary School Administration—all from Villanova University. She ministered primarily in education on elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels. Sister Marcus began her years in education in the Diocese of Trenton where she taught at Corpus Christi School in Willingboro (1959-1961) and St. Anthony School in Trenton (1961-1963). Sister Marcus ministered in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 52 years. She taught at Lansdale Catholic High School (1963-1965) and St. Maria Goretti High School (1965-1977). From 1977-1988 she ministered at St. Hubert High School both as teacher and principal. Sister Marcus’ years of service at Neumann University (1989-2008) included serving as director of the Learning Assistance Center and as an academic advisor in the Division of Business and Information Management. From 2008-2014 she served in local house ministry—first at St. Anthony Convent in Springfield and later at Queen of Peace Convent in Aston. In 2014 she became resident at Assisi House and served in prayer ministry until her death. All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014 on Wednesday, August 26. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Marcus is survived by her nieces and nephews, her grandnieces and grandnephews, and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S.
