Sister Margaret Maureen Thompson, OSF, 81, died in Assisi House on June 29. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 57 years. Sister Margaret Maureen (Patricia Ann Thompson) was born in Wilmington, Delaware, where she was a member of St. Paul Parish and a graduate of St. Peter High School in New Castle. She entered the congregation in 1959 and professed her first vows in 1962. Sister Margaret earned a B.A. in English from Neumann University. She ministered primarily in education. Sister Margaret Maureen ministered for 56 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She taught in St. Anthony School, Shrine of the Little Flower School, St. Clement School in Rosedale, St. Joseph School in Fullerton, Immaculate Conception School in Towson, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Middle River. During her later years at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, she served as a volunteer. In 2018 Sister Margaret moved to Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence in Aston, Pennsylvania, where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death. All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014 on Monday, July 8. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Margaret Maureen is survived by her sisters, Norma Winkelman and Dolores Wintrup, a niece, a nephew, and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
