Aston, PA—Sister Patricia Kidd, OSF (formerly Sister St. Jude), 83, died in Assisi House on June 30. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 63 years. Sister Patricia was born in Dublin, Ireland. She entered the congregation in 1957 and professed her first vows in 1960. She later earned a B.S. in Social Sciences from Marylhurst College in Portland, Oregon. She ministered primarily in education and social services. Sister Patricia ministered for 24 years in Diocese of Dublin, Ireland. She served as a counselor at St. Peter the Apostle Parish and later at the Cuan Mhuire Center in Newry. During her final 13 years in Dublin she was a counselor at the Beacon of Light Counseling Center. Sister Patricia ministered for 10 years in the Diocese of Cheyenne where she taught at St. Stephens Mission. During her seven years in the Archdiocese of Portland, she served as formation director for the Sisters of St. Francis. Additional ministry experience took Sister Patricia to the Diocese of Juneau where she was a Mission Sister for the diocese. During her years in the Diocese of Oakland, she taught at St. Isidore School in Danville. In the Diocese of Los Angeles she ministered at the Family Study Center in North Hollywood. In 2016 Sister Patricia moved to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She served in local house ministry at Our Lady of Angels Convent for a short time and then moved to Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence, where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death. All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014 on July 9 but will be private. Sister Patricia is survived by her sisters, Betty Dowling, Bernadette Coventry, and May Dengate; her brothers, Liam and Damian; her nieces and nephews; and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
