Ann Shockey

Ann Carol Younkins Shockey, of Greensburg, entered eternal life Saturday, March 11, 2017. Ann Carol was born April 22, 1937, daughter of the late Cameron W and Mary M. Younkins. She was predeceased by husband, Donald E. Shockey, and granddaughter, Amanda Lynne Thoma. She graduated from Hagerstown High School, Class of 1955. She received degrees at James Madison University in Virginia and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. At JMU, she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha social sorority. She taught at North Hagerstown High School in the early 1960's. Later, she was a part-time instructor of English at Westmoreland Community College in Youngwood, and at the University of Pittsburgh in Greensburg. A long-time member (since 1964) of American Association of University Women, she was a charter member of the Greensburg branch of the AAUW, founded in the mid-1970's. She is survived by daughters, Laura L. Shockey and Lynne C. Lipko (Robert); four grandchildren, Cassandra Thoma, Mariah Thoma, Cameron Lipko and Joshua Lipko; and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Karen Y. Gunter (Wallace), of Leesburg, Fla., as well as three nephews. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Greensburg since 1973. Family will receive friends Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Harman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, Md. A service will follow at 2 p.m. followed by interment at Rest Haven Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Good Shepherd in Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any of the following organizations; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 Fairfield Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601; Heartland Hospice Care; or the charity of one's choice. A special thank you to Tara Wills from Heartland Hospice for her exceptional compassionate care she gave our mother, my sister and myself.
