Charles Fox Obituary

Charles F. Fox, 94, of Downingtown, formerly of Greensburg, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017. He was born March 14, 1922, in Greensburg, a son of the late Charles K. and Lucielle M. Johnson Fox. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Greensburg. He was a World War II veteran. Sgt. Fox served in Company F, 158th Infantry of the Army. He led a rifle squad in combat operations in the Pacific. Mr. Fox worked for 42 years as a regional manager for Gulf Oil and for 12 years as vice-president of operations for Penn Tank Line. He was a member of Lodge 331 Free and Accepted Masons, of Ligonier, the Jaffa Shrine, of Altoona, the VFW Post 115, of New Florence, and the DAV, of Ligonier. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Christine X. Cerkovik Fox; a son, Kenneth G. Fox; and a brother, Robert D. Fox. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann (Robert) Scheier, of Downingtown, and Sandra Lee (Barry) Thorwarth, of Summerfield, Fla.; three grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Scott Scheier; a great-granddaughter, Alexa Scheier; and a great-grandson, Christopher Scheier. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. Masonic services will be held at 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33, Greensburg, will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 1228 Brinkerton Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.
