David Vassar Obituary

David Simon Vassar, 36, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. He was born Nov. 23, 1977, in Lower Burrell, the son of David and Sandra (Filo) Vassar, of Lower Burrell. David graduated from Burrell High School where he played baseball, football and was named All Conference Center to the WPIAL Team. He attended Clarion University where he was a member of Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity. David still held a strong social bond with friends he made in high school, college and co-workers. He worked as a landman, for American Energy Partners. He was previously employed by Snyder Brothers in Kittanning and Chesapeake Energy of Oklahoma City, Okla. He belonged to the American Association of Professional Landmen. David was a member of the NRA and an active member of the Police Rod and Gun Club of New Alexandria. One of his joys was hunting and fishing with his father and he also enjoyed family trips to camp and the beach. He also was a Pittsburgh sports fan. David's passion was being a proud father and a loving family man. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Paul and Margaret (Kolesar) Vassar. He is survived by his wife, Kristen M. (Dott) Vassar; a son, Samuel David; and a daughter, Aubree Michelle, all of Greensburg. He is also survived by a sister, Autumn Vassar (Robert McCullough) and their son, Ivan, of Pittsburgh; two brothers-in-law, Joshua Dott of, Pittsburgh, and James "Pete" (Amy) Klugh and their son, Ryan, of Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Kelly (Jason) Byers and their daughter, Elyse, of Harrisburg; maternal grandparents, Simon and Amelia (Kovac) Filo, of Brackenridge; mother-in-law, Jane (James) Klugh, and father-in-law, Carmen (Cheryl) Dott, all of Greensburg; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in the funeral home, followed by interment at St .Clair Cemetery Greensburg.
