Edward Koshar Obituary

Edward M. Koshar, 64, of Greensburg, died Monday, June 5, 2017. He was born April 17, 1953, in Pleasant Unity, a son of the late Theodore “Speedo” and Elizabeth Rakar Koshar. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era. He recently retired as a letter carrier for the USPS and had been working part-time at Shop 'n Save - Route 66, Greensburg. Ed played softball in several area leagues. He was a member of the S. Greensburg Hunt Club, the United AmVets Post 94, and the United Slovak Club. He had been a member of the VFW Post 33, Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Theodora “Teddy” Brooky; a brother, John Koshar; and a nephew, Jason Koshar. He is survived by his wife, Linda Hood-Koshar; four step-children: James (Tracey) Hood, of Blairsville, Marcie (Ron) Elsbury, of W. Newton, Diana (Rodney) Prystash, of Donora, and Audrey (Rich) Rotheram, of Greensburg; seven step-grandchildren: Zachary, Christina, Rachel, Justin, Cory, Paige, and Ashley; three brothers: Paul Koshar, of Greensburg, William Koshar, of Rostraver, and George Koshar, of Pleasant Unity; three sisters: Mary Ann Odendahl, of Latrobe, Cathy Zimmerman, of Perryopolis, and Rose Zukiewicz, of Huntersville, N.C.; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A liturgy service outside of Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33 Honor Guard will follow in Hillview Cemetery, Greensburg.
