Ernest Teichert Obituary

Ernest L. Teichert, 88, of Greensburg, died Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. He was born November 6, 1928, a son of the late Ernest M. and Lucetta Campbell Teichert. Ernie graduated from Greensburg High School in 1946, worked for a year with the former Mt. Water Company, of Greensburg. He graduated from St. Vincent College in 1955 and earned his masters degree from Penn State University. His additional music education was at Northwestern University, in Evanston, Ill., the University of Pittsburgh, and Indiana State College, Pennsylvania. He was a Navy veteran. Ernie retired in 1985 as band director and music teacher at the Levittown High School, Levittown, N.Y. He played the saxophone and clarinet and enjoyed golf, bowling, travelling, and big band music. He always said that his first love in music was conducting. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two step-sons: Daniel and Richard Carroll. He is survived by loving wife Helen Walthour Carroll Teichert; a step-son, Douglas Carroll, of Hollywood, Fla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Ernie was very grateful for all the help given to him by two very special nieces, Barbara Dovich and Diane Anderson. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Redstone Highlands, 8 Garden Center Drive, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the BrightFocus Research Foundation (for Alzheimer’s research), 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, MD 20871, or to the Redstone Highlands Benevolent Fund, 8 Garden Center Dr., Greensburg, PA 15601.
