Eva Mitchell Obituary

Eva Haines Mitchell, 95, of Mint Hill, N.C., passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2017. She was born April 15, 1922, a daughter of the late William Grover and Sarah Elizabeth Klingensmith Haines. She was a graduate of Greensburg High School and attended Greensburg Business College. She married her high school sweetheart, Rev. Robert S. Mitchell, in Riverside, Calif., in 1944. They were married fifty-two years until Bob’s death in 1995. Early in her marriage, she worked as a pre-school teacher and volunteered often in the public schools that her son and daughter attended. She not only provided for her children, but also for neighborhood children, relatives, and anyone needing care. Later, she became a secretary for an insurance company. She always remained active in the churches Bob was assigned to. She served as President of the Ministers’ Wifes of Orlando, Fla. In 1985, she moved to Mint Hill, N.C. to be closer to her daughter and joined Blair Road United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, ceramics, knitting, and crocheting. She even found pleasure in yard work such as raking leaves and sweeping the front porch. She loved to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and graduations with her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two grandsons, two brothers, and four sisters. Eva is survived by a son, Robert S. Mitchell, II, and wife Kay, of Gainesville, Fla.; a daughter, Kathy Myers, and husband, Bill, of Mint Hill, N.C.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister; and many loving nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
