MaryAnn Hockensmith Obituary

MaryAnn Hockensmith, 87, of Jeannette, joined her heavenly Father surrounded by her family on Monday, July 6, 2015 in the home in which she was born. She was born June 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Peter and Cicely Smith Becker. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Jeannette and, later, the First Baptist Church of Greensburg. She was an outspoken Christian and tireless worker at the church: singing in the choir, teaching church school, and serving as deaconess. She loved cooking, gardening, painting, and arts and crafts. She was a competitive bowler in her later years. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Clarence R. Hockensmith, who she met at Jeannette Glass and married in 1951. She was also predeceased by a brother Peter Becker, Jr. and a sister Shirley Stepanik. She is survived by two sons: Cliff (Carol) Hockensmith of Greensburg and Clint (Mary) Hockensmith of Jeannette; four grandchildren: Andrew Hockensmith, Adam Hockensmith, Corrie (Justin) McBride, and Matthew (Emily) Hockensmith; three great-grandchildren: Benjamin McBride, Ava McBride, and Hailey Hockensmith; the following nieces and nephews: Ron Stepanik, Rich Stepanik, Lori Arthur and Michelle Hubbard; and many great-nieces and great-nephews including Natalie, Jamie, and Nick. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 131 N. Second St., Jeannette. The family wishes to thank Excela Westmoreland Hospice for their service.
