Thomas W. Ivory Obituary

Thomas W. Ivory, 95, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Hempfield Manor. He was born June 2, 1920, in Greensburg, son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Blank Ivory. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg. Tom served in the 8th Army Air force during World War II. He was employed for 25 years at Imperial Lighting and 17 years at Latrobe Steel, retiring in 1982. He was a 55 year member of the American Legion Post 515 of Latrobe and a past member of the Hillview Men's Bowling League. Tom was a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed hunting, but especially he enjoyed the company of his dogs and kept a small pack of beagles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Rita M. Price Ivory; and two sisters, Jane Maxwell Patrick and Mary Lu Brier. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Carlson Price, of Greensburg; and brother-in-law, George Patrick, of Maryland. In addition, he is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Janet (Douglas) Leichliter, of Greensburg, Michael (Stefanie) Mesich, of Unity Township, Karen (Thomas) Sochacki, Marcia McCreery, Thomas (Cheryl) Price, Robert (fiance Verdale) Price, Debbie (Michael) Volk and Donna Price, both of Georgia, Connie Brier Cunningham and James Brier; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A liturgy service outside of Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 515 Latrobe. Entombment will follow at St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westmoreland Humane Society, Greensburg. The family would like to extend thanks to the caregivers from Promise Hospice, The Thorne Group and Hempfield Manor for their compassionate care.
