William Judson Harmount Obituary

William (Bill) Judson Harmount, 91, of Bethlehem (formerly Lancaster) PA, died peacefully at home. Born 1928 in Cleveland, OH, he was the adored son of the late Leila Backhaus and Adoniram Judson Harmount. Bill graduated in 1946 from Collingwood High School; then went on to Fenn College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering. While at Fenn he met C. Joy Gell, the love of his life, whom he married in 1952. Bill served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Alaska for two years. In 1953, he accepted a job at AT&T where he devoted his entire career, attaining senior management positions throughout the eastern United States. Upon his retirement, Bill and Joy built their dream house on Hilton Head, SC, enjoying many years of golf, the great outdoors, and entertaining family. Annual visits to Speculator, NY in the Adirondack Park contributed family memories for nearly 50 years. He will long be remembered for his loving devotion as a husband of 67 years and extraordinary provider for his family. He was a quiet man whose actions spoke louder than his words. His honesty, integrity and dedication to a job well done will forever be an inspiration to those who knew him.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Joy; daughter Nancy Levy and husband Dennis of Riegelsville, PA; daughter Karen Mills of Newburgh, NY; and daughter Laura Flanagan and husband Tim of Ellicottville, NY. He is also survived by sister Mary Shelley of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren Amanda (husband Todd), Jeff (wife Kristen), Sarah, Mark, Megan and Ryan; great grandson Andrew; nieces/nephews Debbie, Paul, Kathy, and Glenn; 3 grandnieces, 3 grandnephews, and many friends who are like family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children (shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/shc/donate).
