James M. Bivens Obituary

James M. Bivens, Jr., “Jimmy”, 71, of Hummelstown, and Olongapo City, Philippines, left this earthly world on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
I was born January 10, 1946 in Huntingdon, PA, to Mary E. Lazor Bivens of Middletown, and the late James M. Bivens, Sr., spending my earlier years in Robertsdale. I graduated from Hershey High School in the class of 1963. I served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam for 15 months from 1966 to 1967. For over 40 years I was an over the road truck driver. Like the song goes, “I’ve been everywhere, Man. I’ve been everywhere!” I retired from the Teamsters Local 776, and Harley Davidson Transportation, York. I was a life member of the American Legion Post 265 and the former VFW Post 1687, both of Hummelstown.
In addition to my mother, I am survived by my son, Jeffrey M. Bivens of Hummelstown; my grandson, Dylan Bivens of Hummelstown; two sisters, Jennifer McClun-Waggoner wife of Harvey of Vetnor, NJ, and Mary Weiss wife of Alvan of Landenburg; and several nieces and nephews. I am also survived by my extended family of Olongapo City Philippines, whom I am extremely fond of, Raquel V. Celis and daughter, Irish Sheng.
My greatest pleasure was time spent in the Philippines. I wish I could have gotten there earlier in my life. (Life is good in the Philippines!)
I want to say a special goodbye to everyone especially all my trucker friends from back in the day.
Graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 10:30 AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with The Rev. Fr. Ted Keating as officiant. Please do not arrive at the cemetery before 10:15 AM, we will meet in the rear of the visitor’s center.
Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be
made to Vietnam Veterans of America, Capital Chapter 542, Michael J. Novosel M.O.H, 8000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
