Obituary of Wilbur A. Hamsher, Jr. Wilbur A. Hamsher, Jr., 67, of Hummelstown, passed away after a year of suffering with stomach cancer on Monday, September 24, 2017 at his home. Born in Harrisburg on October 6, 1949, he was the son of Genevieve Reed Hamsher of New Cumberland and the late Wilbur A. Hamsher. Will retired from the Hershey Creamery Co., Harrisburg. Over the years, he was employed by Reeves Hoffman and Erie Frequency Control both of Carlisle, AMP Inc., Harrisburg, and Netconn, Mechanicsburg. Will was also a Microsoft Certified Professional Engineer and to date holds seven US patents. He was a 1967 graduate of Red Land High School, where he was first in his class, and a 1971 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. Will was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown. He was also a life member of the Order of DeMolay, and a member of Susquehanna Valley Harley Davidson Chapter. In addition to his mother, Will is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, MaryElizabeth Baum Hamsher, whom he married on November 29, 1991; a daughter, Dr. Sarah E. Hamsher wife of Michael Weger; a brother, The Rev. Dr. Dennis Hamsher husband of Barbara; three aunts, Shirley Reed Ashenfelder, Evelyn Hamsher Leiter, and Judy Reed; two sisters in law, Kathleen Keough and Cindy Evans wife of Tony; a brother in law, William Baum husband of Kathy; several nieces and nephews, Jeremy and Meagan Hamsher and their children Bryce and Bryanna, Jennifer and Brian Schreiner and their children Trent and Reyna, Diane and Nick Tylwalk and their children Elizabeth and Jeremiah, Sarah Cummins and Cameron Badgett, Kyle and Michele Evans, and Marla Scarola and her daughter Ella; and former wife, Joy Miller Hamsher. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 11 AM in Grace United Methodist Church, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. John A. Schaefer, his pastor, officiating. Family and friends will be received following the service. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Will’s church, Grace United Methodist Church, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
