Charles Robert Seibert

Charles R. Seibert, 89, of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at the village surrounded by family. <br><br>Born in South Hanover Township on September 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles and Edith Tusing Seibert.<br><br>Chuck retired as a Social Worker for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. After his retirement, Chuck was involved with Kirby Smith Associates, and was employed by the Manheim Auto Auction. He was a 1949 graduate of the former Hummelstown High School; graduated in 1956 from the former Hershey Junior College; and was a 1967 graduate of Lebanon Valley College majoring in Economics and Business Administration. Chuck was an U.S. Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Ridgeway Community Church of the Brethren, Harrisburg, and its Men’s Breakfast Group, Executive Committee and Stewards. Dedicated to his community, Chuck volunteered on the Elder Express, the Memorial Day Committee, and the Bicentennial Committee, all of Hummelstown, and the Brethren Housing Association of Harrisburg and Brethren Disaster Relief. He was Past President of the Hummelstown High Alumni Committee; member of the Brownstone Lodge #666 F&AM, Hershey; and the American Legion Post 265 of Hummelstown; and served as the Service Officer of the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1687, Hummelstown. Besides finding great pleasure in helping others and serving his community, Chuck enjoyed fishing in Canada and hunting. <br><br>Charles is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Ann Miller widow of Dennis of Chambers Hill, Lisa Harman wife of John of Palmyra, and Michelle Appel wife of John of Glen Burnie, MD; one son, Timothy Charles Seibert husband of Karen of Yucaipa, CA; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.<br><br>He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Shelley, husband of Cynthia Shelley of Etiwanda, CA.<br><br>A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at 4:00 PM in the Roosevelt Assembly Room at the Masonic Village, 600 Freemason Drive, Elizabethtown, with The Rev. Elizabeth L. Bidgood Enders, his pastor, officiating, and assisted by Chaplain Timothy A. Nickel of the Masonic Village Hospice. A private inurnment with military honors will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday in the Roosevelt Assembly Room at a reception following the service.<br><br>Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.<br><br>In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Ridgeway Community Church of the Brethren, 525 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17109; or to the Masonic Employees’ Benefit Fund, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.<br><br>Online condolences may be shared at www.trefzandbowser.com.
