Myron Nehrebecki Obituary

Myron Paul “Cope” Nehrebecki, 64, of Washington, PA (formerly of Indiana) went to his eternal rest on Monday, July 10, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laura (Kern) Nehrebecki; daughter Lynne (Nehrebecki) Getz; grandchildren Bobby, Katie, and Ben Getz; sister Nadine (Nehrebecki) Murtaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Millicent (Skokut) Nehrebecki. Myron was raised on 31 acres in Somerset Township. He learned the value of hard work from his mother as he assisted her and the rest of his family regularly on the family farm and spent many days with his parents and sister at farmers markets selling flowers and vegetables. This early farm experience was the spark that ignited his later passion for engineering, lifelong learning, and nature. That passion continued as Myron followed in his father’s footsteps into mining, attending West Virginia University for his bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering. On one serendipitous weekend, a friend invited her friend Laura to visit. She introduced the two of them, and not long after they were married on August 24, 1974. Shortly after Lynne was born, the family moved to Indiana, PA, where Myron worked for R&P Coal Company. His mining career spanned many years in multiple mines and offices. He competed as a member of the Mine Rescue team and was a strong advocate of mine safety. He transitioned to Consol Energy when the company purchased R&P, and he retired from Consol in 2013 after 36 years. In Indiana, he was actively involved at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, became a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, regularly organized the annual church festival, and served on the St. Bernard’s School PTG while his daughter attended there. He was once asked why he never joined the choir, but after his “audition” the choir director became fully aware. A devoted family man, Myron was always there for his wife and daughter, providing them with a beautiful life. He was a loving son who took care of his parents in their later years, as well as a dedicated brother, always there for his sister. He loved his grandchildren deeply. He kept in touch with first, second, and third cousins and aunts and uncles, and he always went to family reunions. He made friends wherever he went and adopted himself into quite a few families along the way as he easily became a brother, uncle, and cousin to many. Myron was a man of devout Catholic faith who has no doubt been welcomed into Heaven with all of God’s glory, but his gift of gab, ability to turn anything into a pun, and infectious laugh will be tremendously missed by all who knew him here on earth. Friends will be received Sunday, July 16th from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Monday morning 10:00am at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, Indiana. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
