Brian S. Nelson KANE Brian S. Nelson, 29, of 618 Tionesta Ave., passed away Tuesday (May 9, 2017) at his residence. Born November 6, 1987, in Kane, he was the son of Scott and Suzanne Horton Nelson. Brian was employed as a correctional officer at FCI-McKean. He was a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a degree in community health. He was a member of the Kane VFD where he previously served as president and also belonged to the Central District Volunteer Firemen Association. He also was a member of the BPO Elks #329, the Elk County Sportsmen's Club, the Kane VFW Lodge #1132, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE #307. Brian was instrumental in starting the Kane VFD Gun Bash. He loved the outdoors and camping and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Melissa (fiance Matt Rich) Nelson of Kane; maternal grandmother, Patricia Horton of Kane; paternal grandmother, Nancy Detrick of Kane; paternal grandfather, Richard Nelson Sr, of Auburndale, FL; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William Horton; paternal great-grandparents Betty and Francis Detrick; maternal great-grandparents Anna and John Espin and Loretta and Russell Horton; and an infant cousin, Kayla O'Rourke. Friends will be received Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday at the First Church of God with the Rev. Chad Troup, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Callistus Cemetery.
