Barry Welshans

Barry L. Welshans, Sr., 87, of Loganton passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Born on June 9, 1929 in Rauchtown, he was the son of the late Frank and Ida Gamble Welshans. Barry was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1951 until 1953. On September 13, 1970, he married the love of his life, Effie R. Richards Welshans, who preceded him in death. In his early years he worked for Renningers Lumber Company. He then was employed by Piper Aircraft for 29 years before retiring in 1984. Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He especially cherished the time he spent with his family. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Barry L. and Doreen Welshans, Jr. of Loganton; two step-sons, Norman (Peg) Johnson of Mackeyville and Dale Johnson of McElhattan; four siblings: Luke Welshans of Rauchtown, Mav Rauch of Elmsport, Stanley Welshans of Oval, and Sharon Lamey of Rauchtown; a granddaughter, Justine Myers; two great grandchildren, Jevon “Bubba” and Aleyah “Frog” Myers; and his buddy, his dog, Sarge, whom he will be sorely missed by. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by eight siblings: Merril Welshans, Bill Welshans, Richard “Dick” Welshans, his twin, Larry Welshans, Jane Buttorff, Paul Welshans, Nancy Shadle, and Buddy Welshans. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 12 noon at the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven. Burial will follow at Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 until 8 P.M. Memorial contributions in Barry’s name may be made to the American Kidney Association through the funeral home.
