Daniele Zannella

Daniele Zannella, 92, of Dunnstown was taken to heaven Saturday, April 15, 2017. He passed peacefully at his home with his family. Daniele will be remembered for being a most kind and gentle soul. Born in Campodimele, Italy on October 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Pietro Zannella and Maria Grazia Zannella (Pannozzo). Daniele emigrated to the U.S. in 1956 to come help is Uncle Antonio Zannella manage the Eagle Hotel in Lock Haven. He returned to Italy for a short time and married the love of his life, Maria G. De Filippis, who survives, on February 8, 1964. They returned to Lock Haven and he continued working at the Eagle Hotel for 25 years until his uncle’s death. Daniele then worked at the Sons of Italy in Lock Haven until his retirement in 1989. Daniele was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Sons of Italy. Daniele enjoyed hunting, gardening, and playing Italian cards. Most important to him, though, was his family. In addition to his wife, Maria G. Zannella of Dunnstown, he is survived by two children, Anthony Zannella of Mill Hall and Lena Zannella of Pleasant Gap; two grandchildren, Rocco and Joshua Zannella; four great grandchildren, Devin, Brooke, Emma, and Elliott; a half-brother, Giuseppe Pecchia of Italy; several nephews; and a niece who also reside in Italy. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alfredo Zannella. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 12 noon at the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven with Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating. Private burial at St. Agnes Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Daniele’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital through the funeral home.
