Jean Conley Obituary

Jean Elaine Ayres Conley, 88, beloved wife of Donald James Conley, passed away at home on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013. Born on April 30, 1925 in Tioga Center, N.Y. to William Loren and Bessie Densmore Ayres, she lived much of her adult life in Colorado Springs and Pueblo West, Colo., before moving to Lock Haven four years ago to home share with a daughter, Katherine E. Taylor. Jean grew up in Tioga Center, N.Y., graduating from Owego Free Academy in Owego, N.Y. in 1942. She married Donald, her high school sweetheart, in 1947. She was a giving wife, mother, grandmother, and caring friend. Jean was an extraordinarily faith-filled woman with an indomitable spirit who saw God's hand in everything. She was an active participant in Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Pueblo West, serving as a lector, CCD teacher and Eucharistic minister. She died as she lived, accepting her inevitable passing with dignity and grace. Jean had many and varied interests. She enjoyed outdoor activities: hiking, camping and traveling throughout the West. She was an indefatigable hiker of Colorado's 14,000-foot mountain peaks. She was an extremely intelligent, well-read woman who loved learning. Though life did not afford her the opportunity to travel outside of the United States, a grandson fondly dubbed her: "a worldly non-passport holder" because of her interest in, and knowledge of, world geography and events. Beyond her love for the outdoors, she dressed "to the nines" in vibrant colors, was an enthusiastic polka dancer, an animal lover and preservationist, and an all around classy lady. A daughter, Paulette Conley Brodsky, and a son-in-law, Gerald Taylor, predeceased Jean. Besides her husband of 66 years, Jean is survived by three daughters, Katherine E. Taylor of Lock Haven; Lynette (Richard) Gorell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Linda (Vincent) Aliberti of Wells River, Vt.; her grandchildren: Allison Taylor Bryerton, Scot Taylor, Sheila Meade, Athena Tabor, and Nicole Mikulas-Serletti; as well as great-grandchildren and numerous friends. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held for Jean at Holy Spirit Parish - Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Joseph Orr will officiate, assisted by Deacon Chip Young. The family will greet friends and relatives at a luncheon in the parish center immediately following the Mass. Memorial donations may be made in Jean's name to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301 or St Joseph's Indian School, 1301 N. Main St., Chamberlain, S.D. 57325. Funeral arrangements are by Moriarty Funeral Home and Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven Pa., 17745, phone: 570- 748-4461.
