Gwen Surman

Gwen Surman A resident of Friends Nursing Home, Sandy Spring, MD, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Mrs. Surman was born July 24, 1909 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England. The family immigrated to Canada when she was four and later to the United States. Residences in the U.S. included a series of towns in West Virginia. Later, the family moved to Washington, PA. Gwen graduated from Washington High School and then from the Washington Business School. While a resident in Canonsburg, Gwen met and married George D. Surman. In 1979 Gwen moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD to be near her son. At Leisure World, she was an affiliate with the Inter-Faith Chapel. Mrs. Surman is survived by a son, George R. Surman, daughter-in-law, Rose and granddaughters, Sonja and Deborah. Friends will be welcome on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Beinhauer-Bogan Funeral Home, 164 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-5810 where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
