Paul Donald "Sam" Flatz

P. D. “Sam” Flatz Sam, of Upper St. Clair, went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2011 after a valiant fight against liver cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Cynthia; sons John (Kim) and Daniel (Candace); grandchildren Sam and Olivia; sister Betty Babcock of Chesterton, IN and brother-in-law Frank (Jeanette) Anderson of Spartanburg, SC. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Two sisters, three brothers, and his parents Mary and John preceded him in death. Sam graduated from Valparaiso University and served in the Army during World War II. He was employed by U S Steel for many years and retired as controller of American Bridge Division. He also worked at Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel and then as a Realtor for Northwood Realty in Upper St. Clair until 2009. He was an avid golfer and gardener and was very active in Pleasant Hills Rotary. He was once named Rotarian of the Year and received the Distinguished Service Award from Rotary in 2009. He also organized the Rotary Interact Club at South Park High School. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. 724-941-3211. Friends welcome at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 15317, Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Blessing Service at the funeral home Saturday 10 AM. Interment in Bethel Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Bethany Hospice (Greentree), cancer research, or the charity of the donor's choice.
