Joyce Himes

Joyce E. Himes, 91, of Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, went to be with her savior on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. She was born on November 12, 1921 in Meadville, a daughter of George H. Burton and Mildred L. Flaugh Burton. She married Leo R. Himes on June 7, 1941, he preceded her in death on December 24, 1992. She was a 1940 graduate of Meadville Area High School. Joyce and her husband, Leo were co-owners of the Sherry Donut Shop on Arch Street in Meadville from 1950 to 1958 which moved to South Main Street in 1958 and was closed for business in 1970. She was also employed by Grasso's Grocery Store, Spaulding's, and Automatic/Servomation all of Meadville. Joyce was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and attended Blooming Valley United Methodist Church with her sister. She was a past member of the Italian Civic Club and Eagles of Meadville. She enjoyed the sunshine, her beautiful flower gardens, all animals especially her cats, feeding the birds, making crafts, and sewing quilts for her family and friends. Joyce is survived by three children, Sherry Greggs and her husband Floyd of Meadville, Sarah Smith and her husband Lynn of Saegertown, and Dave Myers and his wife Debbie of Saegertown; ten grandchildren, Maxine Sheakley and her husband Jim of New Berlin, Pennsylvania, Dave Greggs and his partner Martin Ellison of Harlan, Iowa, Tom Greggs and his wife Glenda of Meadville, Bob Greggs and his wife Sheri of Meadville, Ranee' Armstrong and her husband Joe of Summerville, South Carolina, Jason Smith and his wife Carrie of Saegertown, Leslie Giebner and her husband Brian of Saegertown, Ayshea Heckman of Meadville, Vince Myers and his wife Melanie of El Paso, Texas, and Andi Johnson of Barnwell, South Carolina; thirteen great-grandchildren, Bill and Clark Sheakley, Brady, Joshua, and Sarah Greggs, Adam and Zach Armstrong, Connor and Colby Smith, Dylan Giebner, Finnegan Myers, Ayden and Kylee Johnson; one great -granddaughter due in January, Ahna Joyce Myers; a sister, Maxine McFadden of Meadville whom she lived with for many years; a nephew, Gary McFadden and his wife Genee of Longview, Texas; and a niece, Sue Cronin and her husband Ed of Saegertown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo and her parents. She was loved and called Grandma Joyce by many people and was always there with advice and open arms to anyone who needed her. Family and friends are welcome to call on Sunday, August 4th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5th at 10:00am at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Rusnak of Asera Care Hospice, officiating. The committal service and burial will take place at Brookhouser Cemetery, Saegertown.
