Betty Louise Atherton, 85, of Mercersburg passed away on Wednesday August 5, 2020 in Waynesboro, PA. Born February 2, 1935, in Willow Hill, Pennsylvania she was a daughter of the late John and Blanch Musser Neil. Betty married Amos Atherton on September 7, 1949 in Mercersburg, PA. Betty worked many years at Corning in Greencastle, and later for Whitetail Ski Resort in Mercersburg. She enjoyed attending yard sales, auctions, and also like to hunt and fish. Betty loved to cook for her family and bake cakes for grandchildren’s birthdays. She was a caring person, a kind friend, and a loving mother. Betty attended Greencastle Church of God and Clayton Memorial Church of God. She was a member of the Mercersburg Legion Post 517 and Mercersburg VFW Post 6241. Betty is survived by her children, Larry M. Atherton of Mercersburg, Linda K. (Leon) Keefer of Clear Spring, Travis W. Atherton of Mercersburg, Henry F. (Gloria) Keyser of Gerrardstown WV, and Tommy E. (Terri) Keyser of Greencastle. She is survived by 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Amos Atherton (2009), a daughter, Shirley Keyser, and siblings, Roy Neil, Ellsworth Neil, and Faye Smith. A private memorial graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
